An Interconnection Between the Univac 1230 and the IBM 360/91 Computers for Real-Time Radar Studies.

Abstract

The Univac 1230 and the IBM 360/91 digital computers are connected by means of an asynchronous high-speed data link. The data link, developed by APL personnel, is capable of transferring 32-bit words at a maximum data rate of 167 000 words per second over a distance of 1000 feet. The main function of the data link is to provide an interconnection among the Univac 1230, the IBM 360/91, and a radar synchronizer in order to perform a real-time digital simulation of a radar environment. However, general-purpose data transfer may take place in a full duplex mode between the Univac 1230 and the IBM 360/91 computers without the need for the radar synchronizer. This report will give an overview of the hardware and software development of the high-speed data link. (Author)
