Gas Monitoring Equipment Investigation.

Abstract

Based on a study of diving requirements, the constituents selected for monitoring were: oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water vapor (relative humidity), hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, and halogen compounds. Inquiries were sent to manufacturers of gas-analyzing equipment based on the following generally applicable principles: infrared analysis, ultraviolet analysis, orsat analysis, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and colorimetry. Inquiries were also sent concerning instruments suitable for only one gas, e.g., paramagnetic instruments for oxygen. Of particular interest in the search were instruments which would indicate the concentration of gas at elevated pressures. (Author)
