Invertebrates Collected on and around Carroll Island, Maryland.

Abstract

In the period of time since the Director of Research Laboratories initiated the major program Test Area Ecology in August 1969, several studies have been conducted to record abundance and diversity of faunal and floral species native to the Carroll Island test area. This preliminary list of invertebrates was compiled as a part of this biological inventory. Included are protozoa, gastrotrichs, worms, leeches, smails, clams, pseudoscorpions, spiders, centipedes, seed shrimps, copepods, amphipods, isopods, crabs, insects, and other organisms such as pond plankton. This partial list will provide a basis for applied ecological research, particularly the use of invertebrates of the Carroll Island area as bioassay test organisms, or as indicators of environmental pollution.
