An Operator Theory of Parametric Programming for the Transportation Problem: With Management Science Applications.

Abstract

A survey made on the status of industrial and military applications of linear programming revealed that about half of such applications fell in the category of transportation problems (also known as distribution or Hitchcock problems) -- of shipping at minimum total cost of homogeneous good from a set of warehouses with known availabilities to a set of markets with known requirements under the assumption that shipping costs are proportional to the amounts shipped.
