Hydrogen Line and Continuum Study of Maffei 2 by Radio Interferometry,

Abstract

The suspected spiral galaxy Maffei 2 has been interferometrically observed in the 21 cm line and adjacent continuum using a north-south baseline having a fringe spacing of 6.5 arc min. Velocity resolution was 21 km/sec. Positions of the emission centroids at each velocity allowed determination of the orientation and dynamic parameters of the object and a lower limit to the total mass. The fractional hydrogen content of Maffei 2 is less than .005 D, where D is the distance in Mpc. The continuum source associated with it is shown to be extended. (Author)
