Comparison of Thin Plate and Thick Aerofoil Blades in a Centrifugal Fan.

Abstract

The patterns and stability of the airflow in the rotor of a centrifugal fan have been studied, with thin plate blading and with thick aerofoil blades. Specifications of the blading are presented, and a detailed comparison is made of the visualised flow patterns in the channels, exit velocity profiles, flow characteristic curves, and operating range. It is concluded that the aerofoil blading has a wider operating range, and some explanations of this are derived from study of the flow patterns. (Author)
