Intermediate Pulsewidth Laser System

Abstract

The report delineates efforts expended in the design and construction of a glass laser system capable of providing high energy, spike-free output in square pulses of 1, 3, 10, 30 and 100 microsecond lengths. Output beamspread was on the order of 2 mrad or less. A general description of the laser system and its operation is presented first. Each of the major system sections (Laser Generator, Laser Preamplifier and Final Amplifier) are described in detail. Finally, typical output waveforms are shown.
