The Constraint-Reinforcement Approach to Satisfaction and Change. I. Basic Orientation.

Abstract

The report presents the outline of an approach to the problems of satisfaction and personal and social change. It defines the basic concepts and outlines the approach to be more thoroughly developed in subsequent papers. Fundamentally the approach is based upon the assumption that social change takes place when what people find to be reinforcing (satisfying) changes. To apply this approach to the study of both satisfaction and social change requires that one has some method of describing the relationship of man to his environment. The final part of the report introduces what are called 'individual systems' by the relationahip of man to parts of his environment can be described somewhat formally. (Author)
