Flexible Pavement for Tomorrow's Major Airports,
Abstract
The requirements for airport pavements discussed are limited to the flexible pavement structure, with no consideration given to other types of pavement or to geometric requirements for the aircraft considered. Thickness requirements, in the form of design curves, are presented for three of the larger commercial jet aircraft (Convair 880, Boeing 707-320, and Douglas DC-8) whose pavement requirements have tended to control the design of flexible pavements at today's major commercial airports, and for seven jet aircraft which appear to be representative of those that will operate on tomorrow's major commercial airports. Compaction requirements are also presented for each of these ten aircraft. (Author)
