Corrections for Tropospheric Range Error

Abstract

Satellite systems like the 621B have been proposed for air traffic control and navigation. Such systems are designed to provide aircraft position and velocity data based on time delay measurements of propagation between the aircraft and a network of satellites. Since the index of refraction of the troposphere is greater than unity, radiowaves propagate through the troposphere slower than through freespace and the time delay is therefore longer. 16w
