Calculation of Elastic Properties of Anisotropic Sheets and Rods of Cubic and Hexagonal Crystals.

Abstract

Expressions are derived which relate the directional variation of Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio in sheets and rods (also shear modulus in rods) with strong, simple textures of cubic or hexagonal crystals. The expressions are based on assumptions of pure single-phase composition, uniform stress, small grain size, and idealized grain orientation. When randomized, they are consistent with those obtained by Reuss' method for averaging moduli in randomly oriented grains. (Author)
