Abstract

The document is concerned with the Wuhan Incident of late July 1967 which is stated to represent the apex of revolutionary violence in 1967 and a turning point in the Cultural Revolution. Only when the level of bloodshed, disorganization, and factionalism threatened the Army itself did the Mao-Lin faction decide that it was time to pull back. (Author)
