An Introduction to the Use of Weighted Historical Data to Forecast Depot Supply Work Loads,

Abstract

The document introduces a technique that weights historical data to forecast under selected conditions the repair parts supply work load at AMC depots. The technique is based upon past history and requires frequency, rapid, and accurate feedback of data from the performing depot to the forecasting organization. Planned changes (e.g., troop withdrawals, changes in logistic support concepts, changes in budget levels) are not considered. Thus, many variables that make repair parts forecasting difficult are sidestepped. Nevertheless, current tests show that the technique significantly improves forecast accuracy. This technique, coupled with a method to reflect future program changes, would permanently improve the ability to forecast repair parts supply work load. (Author)
