Unitization Module Influence on Materials Handling Costs. Volume IV. Effectiveness and Cost Curves. Part 3.

Abstract

Serious consideration is being given within the DOD to the development of logistics systems based on the intermodal flow of cargo in standard containers. These systems involve new concepts in military logistics which offer the opportunity for expanded use of air lines of communication. The basic objective of this study is to provide an analytical investigation of the effect of alternative unitization modules on cargo transfer costs and handling equipment requirements at the interfaces between delivery aircraft and receiving surface or air vehicles. The study is a subanalysis of the AFSC Airlift Container study, one of several Air Force studies related to the Department of Defense Mobility Support Forces Study Program. (Author)
