Dielectric Membrane Light Valve Study.

Abstract

The report presents a study of a dielectric membrane used as a light valve in a CRT. The areas of study included the schlieren optical system, the characteristics of the dielectric membrane; resolution, write and erase speed, and the storage capability of the composite membrane. It was shown that a thin dielectric substrate for electronic charge control and a corresponding elastomer (deformable) layer on the substrate with a suitable reference plane, provided many desirable features. The dielectric membranes were fabricated and tested successfully in demountable CRT. The resulting performance data was found to correlate with the analytical studies. (Author)
