Oxime Acetates: Substrates for Acetylcholinesterase.

Abstract

Oxime acetates function as typical substrates for acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Both syn 3- and syn 4-PAM acetates are rapidly hydrolyzed. Both are highly water soluble and give large changes in molar absorbance upon hydrolysis. Hence, they have potential utility for spectrophotometric studies with the enzyme. The prior configurational assignment of syn 4-PAMAc has been confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Vicinal aliphatic dioxime diacetates are hydrolyzed by AChE, but quite slowly.
