Study of the Effect of Succinimide-Type Additives on the Oxidation of Motor Oil,

Abstract

Infrared spectra show that 3 percent succinimide additives in motor oils do not affect the composition of the oxidation products, but reduce their total amount. The best additives contained secondary amides. A mixture of 3 percent succinimides and 10 percent bisphenol additives was synergistic.
