Dallas-Fort Worth Tower Cab Design Evaluation.

Abstract

A project was conducted to validate the design concept and determine the operational feasibility of an undecagonal (11-sided) control tower cab for the new Dallas-Fort Worth regional airport. A report was made on position and equipment arrangements, tower console design, and operational factors resulting from the study. A full-scale plywood mockup of the tower cab and consoles was constructed and a 30-day evaluation was conducted. Results indicate that the design concept of the 11-sided tower cab for the Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Airport is valid and that it is feasible from an operational aspect. Position arrangements and the console design are considered. An improved equipment arrangement was developed and recommended.
