A Distortionless Bearing-Frequency Display.

Abstract

The advantages of a distortionless bearing-frequency display for detection, localization, and classification are discussed. An overview of a signal-processing technique (Fourier transform Processing) whose natural output is in this distortionless format is presented. Examples of this display derived from an optical Fourier processor for line arrays are shown. Areas of current and future developmental efforts for improving the line-array display are discussed. These areas include concepts for incoherent integration, display of a time-history, and computer-processed displays. Signal processing for planar and volumetric arrays require the development of techniques for displaying 3-, 4-, and 5- dimensional information. (Author)
