Stability, Linearity, and Optimization of the Linear FM Sweep Generation Loop for a 3.2-mm Radar.

Abstract

The delay line discriminator phase lock loop used in the generation of the linear FM sweep for the 3.2-mm radar is analyzed, with emphasis on loop stability and the choice of the optimum delay for the delay line discriminator for various loop configurations. It is shown that a loop that does not employ a sampling detector is superior and that for such a loop the time delay should theoretically be made as small as possible. Some of the practical loop considerations that restrict the reduction of the time delay are discussed. (Author)
