M17 and Taurus A: 3.4-mm Contour Maps and Integrated Fluxes.

Abstract

Contour maps at 3.4-mm of M17 (the Omega Nebula) and Tau A (the Crab Nebula) yield total integrated fluxes of 300 (+50, -40) and 215 (+44, -34) x 10 to the minus 26th power w/sqm-Hz, respectively. These results are in agreement with the values predicted by extrapolating data obtained at longer wavelengths. The M17 result is consistent with a thermal origin for the radiation. The low signal-to-noise ratio results reported by others, which indicated anomalously high total fluxes for Tau A at millimeter wavelengths, are not confirmed. The 3.4-mm maps are consistent with maps made at longer wavelengths. (Author)
