The Measurement of Neutron Cross Sections for Production of Isomeric Nuclei Including the Effect of a Non-Uniform Neutron Flux.

Abstract

The report presents in detail all the mathematical derivations and results needed to calculate neutron cross sections from experimental data obtained by activation analysis. The report discusses the complexities that arise from the production and detection of isomeric nuclei. Non-uniform neutron fluxes are analyzed by considering a series of short time intervals during which the flux can be considered constant. The report presents general expressions for the metasable and ground state reaction cross sections and concludes by describing several specialized applications of these general results. (Author)
