Plate Deformation by Projectile Titanium and Fiberglass.

Abstract

Titanium and fiberglass plates were struck with cylindrical projectiles. Using a technique reported elsewhere, the transverse deflection was measured as a function of radius and time. The measured values agree reasonably well with predicted deformation based on simple membrane theory for short times and small radii. Bending terms must be included if better agreement during deflection is to be reached and if residual deformation and stress is to be calculated. (Author)
