Redundant Measurements in Atmospheric Variability Experiments.

Abstract

Direct estimates of the variability of meteorological parameters are amplified by the error variances of the measuring system. It is shown that by taking one more redundant (duplicate but independent) measurements the measurement error contribution can be removed and at the same time estimates of the error variances obtained. Only very reasonable assumptions, which are stated in the paper, are required for the analyses.
