Effect of Training on the Maximum Endurance of an Isometric Muscle Contraction.

Abstract

Twenty male volunteers maintained 50% of their maximum voluntary contraction on an isometric task for as long as possible. Following the first session, they were asked to return for a maximum of four additional sessions with increased pay for each additional session. The subjects could return only if they demonstrated increasing endurance in each consecutive session. The results suggested that preliminary training of naive subjects was required before performance stability was incurred. The stability appeared to be related only to indirect endurance estimation.
