Eight-Inch Flood and Tansfer Pump Unit, High-Capacity, Low-Pressure Type.

Abstract

The report covers the design, development, engineer design test, and evaluation of an 8-inch flood and transfer pump unit, high-capacity, low-pressure type. This unit, due to its unique centrifugal-pump design, with self-priming system, may be employed for pumping out below-ground storage tanks, in addition to all other positive suction head services. The unit is suitable for use on the 4-, 6-, 8-, 10-, and 12-inch, high-and low-pressure pipeline systems providing flows from 600 to 4000 gpm. The unit is suitable for tanker unloading assist, providing pressures to pipeline pump stations, providing multiple truck refueling stand flow, high rate transfer of fuel from one storage tank to another, as required, and many other uses in the field where high rates of flow at hydraulic heads below 450 feet are required. A preliminary design was prepared by the Fuels Handling Equipment Division of the U. S. Army Mobility Equipment Research and Development Center, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. (Author)
