Star Sensor Test Facility at the RAE.

Abstract

The Report describes a test facility for the evaluation of star sensors, consisting of an astronomical observatory and a star simulator laboratory. The observatory contains a telescope with which it is possible to find stars down to visual magnitude +4 in daylight, and stars down to visual magnitude +14 at night. In the star simulator laboratory, stars of approximately A(O) class in the magnitude range +2 to +7 can be simulated, and, if desired, superimposed on a simulated sky in the luminance range 250 to 2500 candelas per square meter; an additional facility is that the star can be scanned from side to side through angles of up to plus or minus degree rates up to 750 arc seconds per second.
