Summary of Results of Investigation on Temperatures, Deformations and Material Changes in Bodies in High-Speed Flight.

Abstract

The results of several investigations, briefly abstracted in this report, were obtained under the contract. The subject matter covered is in the field of heat conduction, temperature distribution, and thermal stresses in spherical shells. Of particular interest is the fact that the choice of thermal loading corresponds to convection (or aerodynamic heating) of a type which may be experienced by forward regions of high speed atmospheric or reentry vehicles. It will be noted that in all cases, the shell geometry is spherical. (Author)
