Critical Magnetic Properties of Europium Iron Garnet.
Abstract
The critical magnetic properties of europium iron garnet (EuIG) have been studied in the vicinity of the Neel temperature. The sample used in this study was a single crystal grown by the flux method. Magnetic measurements were made by utilizing the kink-point method for a spherical specimen in conjunction with a vibrating sample magnetometer. The critical exponents beta, delta, and gamma were determined and compared with the scaling equation, beta(delta-1)=gamma. An analysis was made in order to confirm the scaling prediction that the reduced magnetic field has a functional form which is dependent only upon the reduced magnetization. A test of the validity of the value for the Neel temperature, obtained by plotting applied magnetic field as a function of break-point temperature, has been made by application of the Kouvel-Fisher method.
