Polymers with Heavy Chain Atoms. 509Final rept. 1 Oct 68-30 Sep 71,

Abstract

The report summarizes the results of study of polymers with heavy chain atoms. These include: Hypervalent polymers which have the necessary stability to form recognizable compounds in which Te or Xe is the hypervalent atom; and Polymers where the bonding cannot be described by simple words such as 'ionic' or 'covalent'. The chemical structure can be characterized by the methods of vibrational spectroscopy. The polymers are solids that are more stable than the low-molecular-wifht compounds from which they are made.
