Information Processing Models and Computer Aids for Human Performance. Task 1. Second-Language Learning

Abstract

Progress is reported in four areas of activity. A description is given of a new type of display that will allow students to receive automatic feedback on their pronunciation of minimally different pairs of words. The basic hardware configuration is presented for the Mark II version of the Automated Pronunciation Instructor, and the implications of its expanded capabilities are explored. Also, an investigation of the pronunciation problems encountered by English speakers in learning Mandarin Chinese is given.
