Wave Phenomena and Amplification in Periodic Semiconductors.

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to investigate parametric processes in semiconductors with a point of view of using such processes for amplification of microwave signals. The investigations have been concerned with wave periodic variations of some relevant parameter such as doping density. The first part of the report deals with a simplified description of the basic modes and their interactions. It is concluded that the simple model describes most of the relevant characteristics of the basic modes but is inadequate for evaluating the details of parametric interactions. In the latter part of the report a more refined model is used involving diffusion and velocity saturation effects. This part contains a thorough discussion of the mode properties under these more general conditions. (Author)
