Highly Halogenated Organic and Organometallic Materials.

Abstract

Very briefly discussed is research concerning the generation of divalent carbon intermediates through alpha-elimination reactions from organometallic precursors. Such reagent systems are of great value since they allow the generation and transfer to substrate of carbenes under very mild conditions in the virtual absence of complicating side reactions. This has allowed us to study in some detail the chemistry of carbenes and, in particular, to carry out carbene reactions which had never been observed before because alternate carbene generating systems were incompatible with product existence.
