On the Optimum Step Response of Bandlimited Systems,

Abstract

The following bounds for the overshoot/undershoot epsilon of the unit step response of a bandlimited system are derived: 1/pi the integral from omega(0)T to infinity of (K sub 0 (Xi)dXi)<epsilon<(1/pi)(K sub 0)(omega sub 0)T), where 2T is the rise time, (-omega sub 0, omega sub0) the bandwidth and K sub 0 the zeroth order modified Bessel function of the second kind. The suboptimal response corresponding to the upper bound is also discussed. (Author)
