Mossbauer Effect Applications: Hyperfine Interaction of 151Eu in Eu2Ti04.

Abstract

The hyperfine interaction of (151)Eu in Eu2Ti04 has been measured using the Mossbauer Effect in (151)Eu. In this compound, the Eu(2+) site has four-fold symmetry (axially symmetric electric field gradient tensor). Using this property, it has been found that the nuclear quadrupole moment ratio of the first-excited to the ground states of (151)Eu is R = 1.34 plus or minus 0.03. The observed value of the quadrupole interaction energy is e2qQo = (190 plus or minus 7) MHz. (Author)
