Error Evaluation in Determining Concentration and Size of Fog Drops with the Aelita Instrument (Otsenka Oshibok Izmereniya Kontsentratsii i Razmera Kapel Tymana Priborom 'Aelita'),

Abstract

The Aelita photoelectric counter can measure the drop size distribution spectrum in a range of radii from two to 15 microns with an error in measuring the smallest drops equal to 17.5 percent. As the drop concentration increases, the error in counting increases. However, the error contributed by the statistics of the recording could be compensated by a correction factor. When such correction is employed the measurement of drop concentration by the Aelita counter has an error that does not exceed seven percent at a concentration of not more than 2,000 drops per cubic centimeter. Evaluations made under the assumptions of this work show that errors caused by aspiration and diffusional precipitation of drops in the counter's collection device can be ignored. (Author)
