Interactions Among the Various Phenomena Involved in the Design of Dynamic and Rotary Machinery and their Effects on Reliability.

Abstract

As the design of reliable and optimized components and systems of dynamic and rotary machinery is becoming a matter of increasing concern, methods by which a specified level of reliability can, in an a priori manner, be designed into a component assume great importance. So also does the existence of supporting design data in distributional form. The Second Technical Report contains the results of experimental research on materials behavior carried out during this reporting period, together with a discussion of the experimental program planning, the details for calibrating the equipment, design of test specimens, calculation of specimen loading, treatment of the data obtained, interpretation of the results after data reduction, the conclusions, and the recommendations. The experimental results given in this report are in accord with the recommendations of the First Technical Report and constitute the first phase of a comprehensive experimental program.
