Validity of the Three-Mile Run as a Predictor of Forced March Performance in Well-Conditioned Troops.

Abstract

Students at the USMC Physical Fitness Academy were tested to determine whether the 1000-yard run and the three-mile run in gym clothes and tennis shoes successfully predicted times in a 20-mile forced march. The r between the 1000-yard run and the 20 mile forced march was 0.70; that between the three-mile run and the 20-mile forced march was 0.56. These correlations are not high enough to provide satisfactory predictions. (Author)
