Transport Processes in Low Melting Salts. The AgNO3, TlNO3 System.

Abstract

An investigation of the viscosity and conductance, and the laser Raman spectrum for molten mixtures of AgNO3 and TlNO3 is reported. The absence of new frequencies and the temperature invariance of the intensities for the observed Raman bands indicate that the symmetry of the NO3(-) ion in the mixtures does not differ significantly from that of the NO3(-) in the parent compounds. From the viscosities, it was found that the simple mole fraction viscosity relationship is very nearly obeyed. The results confirm small but finite non-coulombic contributions to the structural features and transport processes in such molten electrolytes. (Author)
