Improved Methods for Obtaining Altitude Corrections to Be Applied to Indicate Altitudes of Aircraft in Flight,

Abstract

Discrepancies which are alarmingly large for the purpose of precision bombing are noted between altitudes determined by the usual procedure with a barometric altimeter and accurate measurements made from the ground by means of the Camera Obscura. An Analysis is made of the corrections necessary to improve this situation and of the extent to which it is practical to apply them. The conclusions are embodied in a series of recommendations.
