Survey of the Literature on Strength Characterization of Fiber Reinforced Composite Materials.

Abstract

An interpretative review of the recent technical literature is presented in the areas of characterization and failure phenomena in fiber reinforced composite materials. Following a brief introduction, Section II reviews the material characterization problem within the context of linear anistropic and nonlinear viscoelastic theory. Section III presents a summary of failure theories in fiber reinforced composite materials, with emphasis being given to continuum and to statistical approaches. Each section is followed by a list of references, and the Appendix contains an additional 85 bibliographic references conjugate to Section III. (Author)
