Report on Special Surveillance Tests to Determine a Significant Change in Functioning of FNH Powder, 75mm Gun,

Abstract

A test program was carried out to determine whether a significant change, during storage of about 7 years, had taken place in functioning of FNH powders loaded in 75 mm Mk. I H.E. Shell ammunition; also to determine whether the originally established loading authorizations were correct. The tests indicated that the loading authorizations were slightly in error, but yielded no conclusive proof of a change in functioning of the powder. This ammunition is now about to be renovated. Recommendations are made concerning multiple blending of small lots of powder, reestablishing of loading authorizations, and procedures for acceptance testing in connection with the renovation program.
