Laser Spectral Output of ER3+ in Phosphate Glass.
Abstract
The competition of the 1.536 micrometers and the 1.543 micrometers laser lines of erbium in zinc alumino phosphate glass is reported. Experimental results show that the 1.536 micrometers line oscillates under high loss conditions whereas the 1.543 micrometers line oscillates under low loss conditions. The interaction of the two lines is attributed to the existence of common upper laser levels while the cavity loss dependence is attributed to the small cross section but somewhat greater four-level character of the longer wavelength. Both Q-switch and long pulse data are included. (Author)
