Field Ion Microscope Observation of Iron Base-Tungsten Alloys.

Abstract

A field ion microscope investigation was carried out for low-solute content iron base-tungsten alloys. These alloys had previously demonstrated an etching effect that was postulated to be the result of solute atom ordering. The investigation did not reveal ordering of the solute atoms, although a second etching effect was demonstrated. Specimen preparation for the field ion microscope produced a twin in one sample. The twin was analyzed for shape and boundary structure. Results are contrasted with earlier observations. (Author)
