Feedback Communication on Duplex Digital Links.

Abstract

The report considers the conditions under which feedback can be used effectively in two-way digital communication systems. It recommends the use of feedback whenever a return link is available and the need for reliability, efficiency, and accuracy justifies the cost in complexity in equipment and procedures. It outlines procedures for using a combination of forward error detection and correction codes and automatic feedback of repeat requests when residual errors are detected to obtain effective and efficient error control.
