Magnetic Shielding, Markings, and Label Requirements of LGM-30 Minuteman G and C Components.

Abstract

The documents controlling military air shipments of magnetized materials do not specifically define what is and what is not considered magnetized materials, but do specify a maximum magnetic field strength of 0.00525 gauss at 15 feet and that items or palletized items must not exceed this to be safely shipped by military air. This project was established to determine the seriousness of the magnetic field strength given off by the Guidance and Control Components of the LGM-30 Minuteman Missile System to determine its effect on a magnetic compass.
