Feasibility Study to Develop a DC Link VSCF System.

Abstract

The Static Power Division of Gates Learjet Corporation proposed to the Air Force to design and build a variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) inverter system using the DC link approach. This approach has certain inherant advantages over mechanical systems, which are now in common use in the aircraft, or over other electronic inverter systems which do not imploy the DC link principle. An electrical breadboard was constructed and tested. The program has shown that a DC link VSCF system offer superior electrical characteristics. It was also learned that it is extremely difficult to package the system within the small weight and volume required to make it attractive for aircraft use. (Author)
