Chemical Reactions Studied by Crossed Beam Techniques.

Abstract

An apparatus for total scattering cross section measurements was built. Energy dependence of total elastic cross sections for collisions between D2 and small hydrocarbons were measured and L.J.(12.6) potential parameters were determined. A suitable beam of hydrogen atoms was produced and absolute total cross section for H-Ar collisions were determined. Absolute cross sections for anelastic collisions between alkali ions and sodium atoms also were determined with an apparatus where the molecular beam technique is coupled with spectroscopic observations.
