Protuberance and Vortex Generator Studies at ARL.
Abstract
The report describes a program of research on the aerodynamics of protuberances in supersonic flow. The research included a variety of sizes of circular cylinders mounted on a flat plate having a turbulent boundary layer; both single and multiple cylinder patterns were studied. The results included data for Mach Numbers of 2.0 and 5.0. Study was directed toward the use of vane-type vortex generators to delay the separation of turbulent, supersonic boundary layers.
