Research on Piezoelectric Ceramics.

Abstract

A new wave equation including lateral inertia and shear was developed for stress waves in solid elastic horns. The case of the conical horn was solved and favorably compared to experimental measurements of propagating conditions. The problem of longitudinal stress waves in a rod coupling at the end to a fluid medium was solved for both a fluid tube and semi-infinite half space. The shape of the interface and the fields in both media were predicted. Limited experimental checks have been done and more are planned. Finally, it is recommended that the horn equation be applied to other types and boundary conditions and that the truncated series method of solving boundary value problems be applied to other important problems.
